The
Kindergarten is a period when the family needs supporting
and a time when early skills are detected, encouraged
and stimulated. San Joaquin's objectives for its Kindergarten
are to accompany the families in the formation of their
children, both intellectually as well as humanely, during
these first stages of their development.
The Kindergarten is open to two year olds in the morning
school, three and four year olds (morning and/or afternoon
school) and pre-school, full day obligatory (Spanish-English).
The Kindergarten is bilingual as the children have their
first contact with the English language here. Through
games, two-year-olds start to integrate their first
sounds, words and phrases. A psychogenesis approach
is used in both languages.
San
Joaquin School counts on a Ministerial resolution classifying
the school as an Official bilingual school and this
allows the programmes undertaken by the school to be
articulated to the best of the institutions abilities.
Themes or projects are studied in one or the other languages
with a permanent exposure to English in both morning
and afternoon sections.
From
the two-year-old class the children are in contact with
maths, reading and writing. The end of year for many
pre-schoolers results in them reading and writing. Throughout
the Kindergarten years, the library project, which encourages
reading and writing, is articulated with the bilingual
project of Speech, Drama and Art.
There
is an abundant collection of material and videos that
accompanies learning that is fun. The development of
each stage of the child is followed and documented for
teachers and parents control. Parents are invited periodically
to share classes and meetings.
The
timetable is:
Morning
timetable: 8.00 - 11.45hs
Afternoon timetable: 1300. To 16.00hs
