Art
We
open our eyes; we provoke beautiful sentiments, allowing
ourselves to become emotional and moved. We stimulate
art planting the seed of pleasure for it.
The
history of art provides us with never ending possibilities
for discussions and to extend students vocabulary as
well as their knowledge and culture in general. To introduce
the history of art we need the prints of some of the
pictures and by just observing student can learn a lot.
They
can compare different works of art by the same artist,
observe different techniques and styles and learn to
organise the works in chronological order.
The precious ability of knowing and learning while looking,
seeing and thinking, must be stimulated and supported.
With this, students obtain a real comprehension and
understanding of art. Afterwards they can continue looking
for information in order to build up their knowledge.
Art is magical and rich and is wisdom and has been or
centuries opening children's eyes to it may help understand
and appreciate the world in which we live and the people
with whom we share it.
The prints are worked with as if they are common prints,
details are discussed, the colours, clothing, climate
and the feelings which they awake within us. As from
when we are babies, we experience different feelings
when in front of a picture. Why then not present something
worthwhile to our students.
Teachers
and parents can also learn about art from children as
they look at each work of art, each picture, with honest
and fresh eyes. They look directly and respond instinctively
and spontaneously. It is not important to them if the
author is important or what his nationality is or if
he is a professional or an amateur. Looking at art with
children we realise an activity that is refreshing,
exciting and generally funny and enjoyable. They help
us avoid prejudices, pre-concepts and help us to recover
the fresh and spontaneous look of childhood.
